Sweet Rub for Poultry and Pork

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

This is a staple in our kitchen as we eat a ton of chicken. My wife doesn’t eat red meat so we burn through a good amount of this seasoning. This has a nice sweet undertone from the brown sugar but a touch of spice and smokiness from the cayenne (optional) and smoked paprika.

This rub can be used for any cut of pork or chicken. You can even use it on some vegetables such as carrots to lively them up. My kids love anything with this seasoning!

Category: Seasoning

Prep Time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredient List

  • ¼ Cup dark brown sugar (if you only have light brown, that will work as well)

  • 1 Tablespoons coarse salt

  • 2 Teaspoons coarse black pepper

  • 1 Tablespoon smoked paprika (you can use any flavor preference: hot, mild, sweet, etc. You can also use regular paprika if that’s all you have but the smoked paprika adds a nice touch of smoky flavor)

  • 1 Tablespoon granulated garlic

  • 1 Tablespoon granulated onion

  • 1 Teaspoon ground mustard

  • Optional: ½ Teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in a cool dry place. Use your hands, whisk or fork to break up any clumped brown sugar.

Note: This will stay good in an airtight container for about 1 month due to the sugar. But, I challenge you not to use it all by then!
